Let them eat (wedding) cake!
Supreme Court Oral Arguments: Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission
1:00 – 2:00pm
Tuesday, December 5, 2017
Hazel Gates Woodruff Cottage
Five years ago, Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, CO refused to bake a cake for David and Charlie's wedding reception because David and Charlie are gay. Colorado state law prohibits such businesses from refusing service on the basis of sexual orientation.
On December 5, US Supreme Court will hear arguments for this Colorado case, and US protections from discrimination hang in the balance. Their decision will determine whether businesses can discriminate against customers on the basis of such factors as sexual orientation, race, gender, and religion.
Come hear University of Colorado Law School Professor Scott Skinner-Thompson speak on this important Colorado case. And feel free to eat some wedding cake!
