A major gas line leak at 18th Street and Colorado Avenue on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus caused the evacuation of 12 campus buildings Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported, according to CU police. The leak was reported about 9:35 a.m. Buildings were evacuated by building proctors and campus police officers. Affected buildings were Muenzinger Psychology, Ketchum Arts and Sciences, Hunter Science, Duane Physics, Environmental Design, Fine Arts, JILA, Music, Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry, MCD Biology, Ramaley and Telecommunications.

Students in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder will honor five area businesses with Corporate Excellence Awards at a reception tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom. The annual awards recognize businesses that contribute to the community. The awards and recipients are as follows: •The Technology and Innovation Award – QualMark Corp., Broomfield. The company provides accelerated testing systems that detect design defects in all types of products.

A new program will link doctoral students at the University of Colorado at Boulder with professors at other Colorado colleges and universities. "The goal is to expand the teaching experiences of aspiring professors and expose them to institutions where the majority of teaching jobs are found," said Hoag Holmgren, assistant director of the Graduate Teacher Program. "More jobs are available at liberal arts schools, smaller state schools and community colleges than at major research universities like CU-Boulder."

The Colorado Geographic Alliance, based in the geography department at the University of Colorado at Boulder, is giving every Colorado school a packet of teaching materials in observance of Geography Awareness Week Nov. 16 through Nov. 22. The teaching materials were produced by the Alliance and the National Geographic Society. This year’s theme for the week is “Explore the World: Geography Takes You Places.”
