Stephen is in his fourth year of the Counseling Psychology PhD program at the University of Northern Colorado. He holds a BA in Psychology and Speech-Language Pathology from Brooklyn College. Before coming to CAPS, Stephen provided therapy through the Psychological Service Clinic at the University of Northern Colorado for seven semesters and volunteered as a crisis counselor at Crisis Text Line.

College can be a time of great challenge and struggle, but can also hold tremendous opportunity for personal growth. Stephen is passionate about helping students adjust to the emerging challenges of adulthood and collaboratively build upon their own strengths for coping. He actively strives to embody an approach of cultural humility, in which he works towards understanding an individual鈥檚 personal, unique cultural experience as a lens for their work together.

Stephen conducts research about the process of gender identity development in emerging adults and the connections between restrictive masculinity, cultural environment and mental health help-seeking stigma.
