The (PFA) is taken twice a year (fall and spring semesters) to make sure cadets maintain an acceptable level of fitness.
The PFA consists of three events: push-ups, sit-ups, and the 1.5 mile run. However, prior to taking the PFA cadets will have their Body Mass Index (BMI) scored. The BMI measures a cadet's .
The muscular fitness portion of the exam (push-ups and sit-ups) are 60 second timed events. The aerobic portion of the Physical Fitness Assessment (1.5 mile run) is scored by the time it takes you to complete the required distance. Below you will find a snapshot of the score requirements. Males must be able to do 30 push-ups* and 39 crunches*. Must be able to complete the 1.5 mile run in 15:50.
Females must be able to do 15 push-ups* and 35 crunches*. Must be able to complete the 1.5 mile run in 18:56.
*Push-ups require a straight back with elbows bent 90 degrees. Crunches require hands to be placed on their chest throughout the exercise and the elbows to touch the thigh to count. For a visual representation of these exercises, check out this .
