The Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship
(International Affairs, Political Science, Economics, Management, or related fields)
The program seeks to recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. The goal is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State. The fellowship develops a source of trained men and women from academic disciplines representing the skill needs of the Department who are dedicated to representing America’s interests abroad. Each successful candidate is obligated to a minimum of three years’ service in an appointment as a Foreign Service officer.

- Amount of support:Â The Fellowship provides tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees for the first year and second year of graduate study, with reimbursement for books and one round-trip travel. Graduate-level Fellows receive stipends during participation in one domestic summer internship between the first and second year of graduate school, and one summer overseas internship following the second year of graduate school.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizens
- Applicants have a 3.2 or higher GPA.
- Applicants must be apply to graduate school in the year following application. Fellows will enroll in a two-year, full-time master’s degree program in public policy, international affairs, or public administration, or in an academic field such as business, economics, political science, sociology, or foreign languages (U.S. graduate institutions only).
- Financial need will be considered if students meet the merit-based requirements as well.

A completed application for the Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship includes both an online application form, which requires secure registration at the Woodrow Wilson Foundation Web site. Applicants must submit GRE scored. This application requires two letters of recommendation.
