University of Colorado at Boulder faculty member Marc Edwards was one of 20 scientists and engineers nationwide to receive a prestigious science and engineering award presented at the White House last month.

CU-Boulder's acclaimed Harambee Dancers will present an interactive performance at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the CU Recreation Center in the aerobics room on the second floor as part of CU's observance of Black Awareness Month throughout February.

The CU-Boulder office of Academic Media Services discontinued rebroadcasting the International Channel on Boulder cable and WAN-TV at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, after signing a new contract with the International Channel that restricts its distribution to main campus buildings, offices and residence halls.

A team of engineers from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., is on the CU-Boulder campus this week performing a series of tests on a student-built satellite slated for launch later this year. A semitrailer full of high-tech NASA electronic equipment is being used to ensure that communications between the orbiting satellite and NASA ground stations will work properly, said Stan Solomon, a research associate at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics and the project co-leader.

NEWS TIP SHEET Jan. 22, 1997 CU-Boulder Students Set to Ship Space Shuttle Payload A group of students from the CU-Boulder-based Colorado Space Grant Consortium will ship a scientific payload to Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland this week in preparation for a July launch on NASA¹s space shuttle Â鶹ÊÓƵy from Florida.

The Vice ChancellorÂ’s Awards and Grants Advising Committee at the University of Colorado at Boulder has awarded grants to support outreach projects by 22 CU-Boulder employees for 1997-98. Outreach programs extend the resources of the university and serve various educational, social, economic and cultural needs of communities throughout Colorado.

Joe Louis Barrow Jr., a Denver businessman and son of legendary boxer Joe Louis, will give the keynote address Feb. 1 at the Black Alumni Scholarship fund-raising dinner at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The event is part of CU-Boulder1s observance of Black Awareness Month. Barrow will speak at 6 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center. Several noted faculty members at the University of Colorado at Boulder will present lectures in the Fiske Planetarium during the spring semester lecture series. "Once a month, come share the beauty of the heavens in the Star Theater," said Katy Garmany, astronomer and planetarium director. "Audiences will be able to ask questions of the astronomer speakers and learn about what1s happening in the night sky."

A month-long celebration of the African-American culture will showcase music and dance, film, in-depth discussion and ethnic food in recognition of Black Awareness Month, observed in February each year at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
