Assistant Professors Kōnane Bay and Ankur Gupta from CU Boulder’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering each received three-year grant to advance research relevant to the U.S. Air Force.
Mark Borden, Mark Rentschler inducted into prestigious college of fellows
Professors Mark Borden and Mark Rentschler have been inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows. The program is among the highest professional distinctions given to medical and biological engineers, representing the top 2% of these engineers around the world.
2 CU Boulder scientists win prestigious honor
Tom Blumenthal and Ivan Smalyukh have been named fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Amy Javernick-Will receives construction research award
Amy Javernick-Will, a professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, received the highest academic honor in construction engineering and management from the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Professor Karl Linden receives research award
Karl Linden has been awarded the A.P. Black Research Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to water science and water supply practices. Linden’s research involves pioneering contributions to ultraviolet water treatment technology.

Thawing the mysteries of ancient climate changes
A new study from Chloe Brashear, Tyler Jones and others suggests abrupt warming events were preceded by periods of unusually stable temperatures during the last ice age. The researchers point toward shifting sea ice as a potential driver of the phenomenon.
Dams’ failures intensified flood tragedy in Libya
Researchers analyzed satellite data and models to find dam failures—not rainfall—led to increased flood damage in Derna, Libya, in 2023.
