CU-Boulder To Hold Reunion Fest June 20-22

The Alumni Association of the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold Reunion Fest '97 the weekend of June 20-22. Â鶹ÊÓƵ 400 alumni and families are expected to attend the weekend of events in Boulder for members of the graduating classes of 1987, 1982, 1977, 1972, 1967, 1962, 1957 and 1952. All CU alumni and friends are encouraged to attend. The summer reunion offers everything from events at old campus “hangouts” to seminars on current topics and the Camp Ralphie for kids. Two finalists have been selected for the position of vice chancellor for administration at the University of Colorado at Boulder to fill the post currently held by Interim Vice Chancellor Peter Barden. Chancellor Richard L. Byyny named the two finalists on Friday. Both candidates, John Bernhard and Paul Tabolt, hold administrative positions in the CU system.

CU-Boulder Astronomers To Share Wonder, Knowledge In Star Talks

University of Colorado at Boulder astronomers will share current scientific knowledge and discuss the lore of the heavens in summer star talks in Fiske Planetarium. The live presentations, suitable for adults and children over age 8, will feature talks by CU-Boulder astronomers who will provide illustrations using the star projector and other equipment in the star theater. Each presentation will include time for questions from the audience.

CU-Boulder Researcher Wins International Physics Award

John B. Davies, a physics researcher at University of Colorado at Boulder, has won his eighth award in an international theoretical physics competition sponsored by the Gravity Research Foundation of Wellesley Hills, Mass. Davies received an honorable mention for his paper titled "Regge Calculus of the Fundamental Particles." It is the eighth award Davies has received in the annual essay competition since joining CU-Boulder in 1980.

CU Wizard Show June 21 To Feature Night Skies

Questions about which stars can be seen in June and why June 21 is the first day of summer will be answered in the seasonÂ’s final CU Wizard show, to be presented June 21 by astronomer Catharine Garmany at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The free public presentation of the popular science show geared to youngsters in grades 5 though 8 will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Fiske Planetarium. The planetarium is on Regent Drive near Kittredge Loop Drive.

CU-Boulder Responds To Title IX Complaint

Officials at the University of Colorado at Boulder said that a Title IX complaint announced yesterday with the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) against the university should be immediately dismissed. “We believe CU should not be named in this complaint,” said Chancellor Richard L. Byyny. “We have an existing agreement with the Office of Civil Rights defining CU’s obligations under Title IX in its athletic program. The agreement, completed in 1994, includes the provision of financial aid to female student athletes.”

CU-Boulder Athletics Department Presents 1997-98 Budget Request

University budgetary support for the Athletics Department at the University of Colorado at Boulder will be reduced by about 5 percent this year, according to a budget request summary presented Monday, June 2, by athletics Director Dick Tharp. The 1997-98 athletics budget is part of the overall Boulder campus budget request to be presented by Chancellor Richard L. Byyny at the CU Board of Regents budget and planning retreat June 3-4 in Estes Park.

Japanese Video Crew To Document Day At CU-Boulder Children's Center

A Japanese video production crew will be filming June 10 at the University of Colorado at Boulder Family Housing Children’s Center for a popular TV show to be broadcast throughout Japan. The crew will film children’s activities from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for a segment of a 15-minute show shown twice a day, six days a week to Japanese children, called “Eigo de Asobo” (“Let’s Play in English”). It is the only bilingual (English/Japanese) children’s program in Japan.
