The breadth of artistic skill of CU Boulder faculty is being celebrated in a new exhibition at the
features the creative work of faculty whose scholarship and teaching is grounded in an art-making practice. CU Art Museum brings together works by faculty from across campus to showcase the collective creativity of CU faculty artists.
Ceramics, film, multimedia and sculptural installations, painting, photography, and video works will be on view in CU Art Museum’s galleries through the fall semester.
The exhibition will be open Aug. 17 to Dec. 23, with the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 7. The gallery and reception are free and open to the public.
“We want people to see the breadth of activities our faculty are involved in,” said Hope Saska, curator at the CU Art Museum. “We have artists working in new media, experimental ways in traditional media, engaging in themes that have been essential to their work for a long time, and some are exploring themes of contemporary life.”
The exhibit was curated by Saska and Sandra Q. Firmin, director at the CU Art Museum.
Outside the classroom CU Boulder faculty are artists and scholars who are making significant contributions to art. They exhibit work in galleries, museums and productions from New York to New Zealand. CU Boulder faculty art exhibits are held about every five years. The last show was in 2011.
The fall 2017 Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition will be on view beginning in November. This overlap with Faculty Exhibition: 2017 provides an opportunity for the public to see the creative work of faculty and students simultaneously.
In addition to the opening reception on Sept. 7, several related events are scheduled at the art museum for the fall. See below or check for additional program and event information.
