Launched in May 2014 to jumpstart projects led by current CU-Boulder students, faculty and staff, the CU-Boulder Crowdfunding platform hosted 19 projects raising over $80,000 in the first year. During this time, the platform featured projects and causes such as student-led film projects, a student-led campaign raising funds for the CU-CRC student scholarships, a staff-led campaign for the Breaking the Silence program, student and faculty research projects, and various student organization endeavors.
True to the philosophy behind crowdfunding – sourcing relatively small donations of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet – more than 1,000 CU-Boulder-affiliated campaign contributors engaged with these projects. Through the platform, supporters followed the progress of projects, shared a project with their own community and social network and contributed by way of charitable donation through the CU-Boulder Crowdfunding website.
Are you working on an academic project that you feel would resonate with the CU-Boulder community and need help with funding? The crowdfunding program is looking to partner with colleges and units to connect and engage more members of the CU-Boulder community.
