Six faculty, staff and students at the University of Colorado at Boulder have been named recipients of 2004 Equity and Excellence Awards.

Winners received the awards at the 19th Annual Equity and Excellence Graduation Ceremony and Awards Banquet on April 22.

Equity and Excellence awards are given to faculty and staff whose work best exemplifies a commitment to promoting the principles of academic excellence, cultural pluralism and diversity in the university community.

Students are selected who demonstrate outstanding service to the university community and within the multiculturally diverse communities on campus, in addition to demonstrating academic excellence.

Recipients of the faculty award are Polly McLean, interim director of Women's Studies, and Katheryn Rios, English professor. David Martinez of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication received the staff award.

Students Veronica Crespin and Serena Wadlington received the undergraduate student award and Mary Rachel Fanning was named winner of the graduate student award.

Equity and Excellence awards are presented by the CU-Boulder Office of Diversity and Equity. A request for nominations is announced each spring. A committee of former recipients reviews the nominations and recommends the awardees. Winners receive a certificate and a $200 award.
