The Office of Diversity and Equity at the University of Colorado at Boulder awarded five faculty, staff and students the 2003 Equity and Excellence Awards on April 24 at the 18th Annual Equity and Excellence Graduation Ceremony and Awards Banquet.
Ofelia Miramontes, associate vice chancellor for diversity and equity, was also presented with the Equity and Excellence Special Recognition Award.
Equity and Excellence awards are given to faculty and staff whose work best exemplifies a commitment to promoting the principles of academic excellence, cultural pluralism and diversity in the university community. Students are selected who demonstrate outstanding service to the university community and within the multiculturally diverse communities on campus, in addition to demonstrating academic excellence. Awardees received a certificate and a $300 award.
The 2003 recipients are:
ß Undergraduate student awards: Dara Burwell, Arrah Closson and Bethany DeHerrera
ß Staff award: Omaira Bankston, Organizational and Employee Development
ß Faculty award: Alphonse Keasley, director, Minority Arts and Sciences Program
