Parents and families of CU-Boulder students have a variety of activities to choose from during Parents Weekend Oct. 25-26.
The event draws about 4,000 parents and family members from around the United States and from several foreign countries. In order to help them get around town, the City of Boulder is providing free passes for the Hop, a high-frequency bus that services the core area of the city.
Activities begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, with the fifth annual Parents Weekend Golf Tournament at Flatirons Golf Course and continue through Saturday evening with several entertainment choices, including a concert featuring a cappella music from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Glenn Miller Ballroom.
Registration will be held at the University Memorial Center, room 235, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and again from 8:30 a.m. until game time on Saturday. Parents can pick up name badges, tickets and additional program information and visit with members of the CU Parents Association Board of Directors. University administrators and representatives from various departments also will be available to answer questions and provide information on student services on Friday.
Chancellor Richard L. Byyny and a faculty guest speaker will welcome parents and students at a luncheon on Friday at the UMC. Continuing Education will hold an open house that day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition to the a cappella concert on Saturday, nighttime campus events include multicultural entertainment at the Dennis Small Cultural Center in the UMC at 8 p.m. on Friday, performances featuring CU dance majors on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., with an additional matinee performance on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Charlotte York Irey Studios at the University Theatre Building and special evening shows at Fiske Planetarium.
Tours are scheduled for the National Center for Atmospheric Research, CU-Boulder's Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory, the Dal Ward Athletic Center and the CU Heritage Center. The Office of Admissions will conduct campus walking tours and a guided tour of Boulder, limited to 80 participants, also will be offered. Parents are free to tour the CU Museum of Natural History and the CU Art Galleries during regular hours.
Presentations on Friday and Saturday include "Finding Off-Campus Housing," "Study Abroad" and "Career Development and You." "Body and Soul: Architectural Style at the University of Colorado" will be held on Friday and a new session, "Parent Partnerships: An Introduction to the Academic and Cultural Richness of the University of Colorado at Boulder," will be held Saturday morning.
