Two CU-Boulder students will drink beer and take field sobriety tests under the watchful eyes of a CU police officer March 17 as part of a campaign to promote student safety during this year's spring break.
CU-Boulder's spring break begins March 23 and runs through March 27.
"Drunk with Dick and Jane" will be held at the University Memorial Center's Dalton Trumbo Fountain Court from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. to demonstrate the effects of alcohol. One male and one female student will drink beer at regular intervals and a CU police officer will conduct field sobriety tests on each student to show degrees of impairment.
The demonstration will be followed by a brief presentation by an emergency medical technician (EMT) on alcohol-related accidents and a question-and-answer session with the audience. The demonstration is sponsored by Students Providing Education Â鶹ÊÓƵ Alcohol and other Drugs (SPEAD), a peer education program by and for CU students run by the Wardenburg Health Center.
Information on foreign travel, sexually transmitted infections, alcohol poisoning and alcohol-related accidents also will be provided in booths set up March 16-17. The booth will be in the Recreation Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 16 and in the UMC Loggia from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 17.
All events are free and open to the public. The "Have A Safer Spring Break" campaign is sponsored by the Community Health Education Department of the Wardenburg Health Center, the University of Colorado Student Union and SPEAD. For more information call 303-492-8885.
