The International and National Voluntary Service Training Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder will work with the city of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday, July 19, to help clean up various sites around Boulder.

Participants of the INVST community service project will meet at Harlow Platts Community Park at 9 a.m. to pull out weeds covering areas of the park grounds. In the afternoon the cleanup group will travel to Saw Hill Ponds east of Boulder to pick up debris in and around the water. Â鶹ÊÓƵ 30 people are expected to attend, including students, staff and alumni.

INVST is a two-year service-learning program for CU-Boulder juniors and seniors designed “to develop well-informed citizens who are trained as leaders to analyze and solve community problems as a lifetime commitment.”

INVST combines rigorous academic work with challenging service experiences and comprehensive leadership training. The program includes four 3-credit classes, four 1-credit lab sessions and community service during the academic year and summer.

On Friday, July 18, INVST will host a Community Building event at Chautauqua Park from 8 a.m. to noon. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. participants will be at the Boulder Reservoir. The projects are designed to prepare students for their upcoming summer community service. Participants will learn and exercise various communication and leadership skills while interacting in a small group setting.

Co-Directors Gene Nichol and Jim Downton will be on site between 9 a.m. and noon to offer more information on both Friday and Saturday.
