The Department of Spanish and Portuguese collaborates with the School of Education to offer a Secondary Spanish Teaching Licensure, which is available to degree-seeking undergraduate students and post-BA candidates.  For degree-seeking undergraduates, the licensure requires the same coursework as the Spanish Language and Literature major together with several additional classes through the School of Education, plus a final semester in which you will student-teach at a local middle or high school.  Undergraduate candidates in this program also enroll for the through the School of Education.

One of the required courses for the Secondary Spanish Licensure is SPAN 4650, Methods of Teaching Spanish.  It is a 3-credit course offered every other spring (odd years).

The Elizabeth Brower Fund offers funding to Secondary Spanish Teaching Licensure candidates, as well as graduate students, and faculty, for activities related to improving Spanish language teaching.
