  • RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Emma “Scout” Wood (she/they) is a second-year graduate student and the Lead TA in the department of Religious Studies. She completed a BA in English Literature and a BA in Philosophy at the University of Central Florida in 2023. In undergrad, Scout also completed a minor in Religion & Cultural Studies, a certificate in Interfaith Dialogue, an honors undergraduate thesis entitled “Wild Wild Country: Netflix, Orientalism, and the Guru,” and graduated with honors. In their first year at CU, Scout was co-editor-in-chief of the department’s graduate journal, NEXT.

Their research interests have developed to focus on contemporary American religions through a lived religion methodology. More specifically, they are increasingly interested in public religious literacy and religion in children’s media. Scout is passionate about written expression, education, and teaching, and intends to earn her Certificate in College Teaching while at CU. In her free time, Scout enjoys basking (in moments and in sunshine), volunteering at the public library, sitting in wide open spaces, and collecting miniature figurines of houses.
