Carbondale Arts presents 鈥淣ESTed Roots鈥�, a collaborative exhibition in partnership with CU Boulder鈥檚 鈥淣ature, Environment, Science & Technology (NEST) Studio for the Arts program and Aspen-based CORE (Community Office for Resource Efficiency).

The Firehouse Art Center presents the culmination of our Winter Residency partnership with NEST Studio for the Arts, featuring the work of artist Amy Hoagland and re- searcher Jennifer Cole. The exhibit presents a site specific art installation featuring an artificial natural environment, creatively addressing the boundaries between the natural and artificial in its arrangement and construction. Visitors can participate in a research experiment about psychological experiences of art, bridging the connection between art and scientific research.

The transition team for the incoming presidential administration of Joseph R. Biden recently sent an email to institutions around the nation, seeking input and names of experts in four key priority areas鈥攖he COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery, racial equity and climate change. 鈥淪o many names came to my mind in all four areas,鈥� said Lori Peek, professor of sociology and director of the Natural Hazards Center in the Institute of Behavioral Science at the 麻豆视频. The priorities 鈥渞eally cross-cut the work that people in the hazards and disaster field do.鈥�

Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center will present Fieldworks: Beyond Measure, a project by Todd Stewart, associate professor of art, technology and culture, and Robert Bailey, associate professor of art history鈥攂oth at the School of Visual Arts at the University of Oklahoma.

Lori Peek found herself in the evacuation zone; she fled with her husband and dog 鈥渁s spot fires ignited the parched land鈥� on the mountainside behind her house. Peek happens to know a lot about risk, as a sociologist who studies disaster and directs the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado.

Last week we were fortunate to work alongside CU NEST to host artist and researcher Nina Elder at The Dairy as she created a new mural for the outside facade of our building. On view on the front windows of our terrace, Elder created a new list mural with crowd-sourced responses from the community to the question, "What is Transitory?" while creating another mural at the CU NEST campus, with the question "What is Permanent?"

Year-long seminar strives to make unseen ecological harms clearly observed by blending science and art.

In fall 2020 and spring 2021, the project team will host a graduate seminar, bringing together dozens of university participants, including Valerie McKenzie, Clint Carroll, and Paul Sutter, as well as national and international keynote speakers, visiting artists and a postdoctoral student. The speakers will include climate-change scientists, eco-philosophers, sound artists and more.
