IDE Courses

Design Thinking. The Power to Create.

Integrated Design Engineering courses focus on hands-on design and experimentation. All of our classes have a design component that helps students take their knowledge from theoretical to practical.

Frequently Asked Questions

IDE has been through several name changes. GEEN comes from our original name. Our prefix will be changing to IDEN in Fall of 2023. Because many folks use our courses, we are giving our partners time to update their catalogs and language.

All Students in IDE are required to complete:

  • GEEN 1400: First-Year Projects
  • GEEN 2400: Engineering for the Community
  • GEEN 3400: Invention and Innovation

But, not all IDE students will take all the other IDE Core Courses. Check your emphasis for your core course list.

IDE Students have the opportunity to take hands-on, design-based versions of the traditional courses offered through various CEAS departments.

Both versions of these courses cover the same material, but IDE versions are taught by our faculty and include hands-on design, where students get to put theory into practice and learn by doing.

Through these unique classroom experiences, students gain valuable engineering skills including:

  • communication
  • teamwork
  • understanding of the engineering design process
  • experience with a variety of computer tools such as spreadsheets, dynamic modeling software, computer-aided design (CAD), etc.
