Mary Schaefer is the Chief Compliance Officer for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). She joined DEA in June of 2016 as DEA’s first Chief Compliance Officer. Her office’s mission includes the management of DEA’s agency-wide compliance program, policy administration process, and external audit liaison function. Prior to DEA, she served as a manager and compliance officer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Office of Integrity and Compliance. She also served as a senior management consultant to the Department of State. Ms. Schaefer began her career as an attorney in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps where she served as a prosecutor, command legal advisor, and instructor of Constitutional and military law at the United States Military Academy at West Point.Â
Ms. Schaefer holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland. She is licensed to practice law in the state of Maryland. She lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with her husband, Brian, and children, Matthew and Tess.
