I'm happy to announce that Jieqiu Shao has just passed his PhD defense.

Dr. Shao took an enourmous risk when he committed to our project on our Shaken Lattice Interferometry project, as neither of us had any background in quantum physics and there was a real possibility that nothing would come of it.

At the end of this long and crazy journey, I'm proud to say that Jay surpassed all expectations by developing quantum optimal control laws that were successfully implemented by our collaborators on the experimental setup.  In recognition of all his hard work, Jay received the 2024 Best Thesis Award from the ECEE department. His journey into quantum control will continue at , where he has been appointed as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and will continue working on quantum sensing applications.
