Calling all second-year students! We know that the pandemic meant you didn鈥檛 have a normal start to your college experience in fall 2020 or spring 2021. To help you connect with your cohort in-person and show our appreciation for our second-year students, we鈥檙e holding an exclusive event 鈥� just for you!

In 2022, CU Engineering will be opening a new student services hub in the renovated North Wing of the Engineering Center. We are seeking students to participate in one-hour focus groups to get your insight and feedback on how this space can best serve you.

The dates and times for the focus groups are:

• Tuesday, Sept. 28 鈥� 2-3 p.m., in person
• Wednesday, Sept. 29 鈥� noon-1 p.m., Zoom
• Thursday, Sept. 30 鈥� 5-6 p.m., in person
• Friday, Oct. 1 鈥� 3-4 p.m., Zoom

Each participant will receive a $15 Amazon gift card, and food will be provided to in-person participants. If you have questions, please email Ben Weihrauch, senior director of student professional development.

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) will be held virtually April 4-8, 2022. This is a great opportunity to present your research at a national event. If you submit an abstract, please list Sharon Anderson (Sharon.E.Anderson@Colorado.Edu), director of active learning, as the Campus Coordinator.听

New Venture Launch is a unique course designed to help cross-campus student teams fast-track their ideas into viable businesses. In addition to direct coaching and mentoring, this course provided financial support by covering the team's legal, insurance, marketing and other expenses, thanks to generous funding. The course brings in outside experts to help workshop ideas and mentors in their venture industries to coach teams. The student groups will also pitch their ideas multiple times in front of investors and accelerators for feedback, and to compete for additional funding.听

Funding for College of Engineering and Applied Science student organizations or societies is now available. Complete an application and attach your organization鈥檚 bylaws by Sept. 30. Notifications of funding will be sent out in early October.听

In the past few years, awards have been $400-$500. In order to receive funding, your organization must be as a Recognized Student Organization (RSO).

Science Buffs intro meeting | Today at 5 p.m.

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at science writing? Science Buffs is a graduate student-run STEM blog committed to making science from CU Boulder (and beyond) more accessible to the general public. And they鈥檙e looking for more writers and editors!

Their first meeting of the year will be Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 5 p.m. in GOLD A250. You can also . Hear more about who they are, what they do, and how you can get involved.听

Soon, you will start receiving those first round of exams back. This is a great time to dive into strategies such as CPS to be strategic about using your returned exam(s) to prepare for the next. Take it a step further and visit with a to review your returned exam together to discuss study strategies for your next exams.听

Every semester, instructors can participate in course alert notifications. This is a proactive measure they can use if there are concerns about a student's grades, attendance or other areas of academic performance in the course.听

Students are not in trouble if they receive a course alert(s). The goal is to let students know where they stand in the class and connect them to resources and support while there is still plenty of time to make positive change.听
