Welcome back! The beginning of this semester has brought many unfortunate events into an already challenging couple of years, especially the increase in COVID-19 cases and the devastating Marshall Fire that affected Louisville, Superior and parts of unincorporated Boulder County.

While the semester has not started as we had hoped, our Engineering Council wants to remind everyone that they are not alone, and that our community is here to support those affected by these tragedies. Times may be challenging now, but our community is nothing but resilient. Through different ways, we rebuild each other bit by bit.

In an effort to aid those affected, our council will be selling custom stickers designed to bring awareness to those who have been affected by the fires. The proceeds will be donated to different organizations and funds to help those in need.Ìý

As the student government of the College of Engineering and Applied Science, we hope to continue to support those healing and rebuilding after the fires in increasing ways. However, our efforts are not enough – we need your help. For more information and resources, .Ìý

The College of Engineering and Applied Science recently changed the minimum GPA required for good academic standing from 2.250 to 2.000. Please review the college website on Academic Standing for details. This also means that graduation requirements have changed – students will need a minimum 2.000 CU overall GPA and minimum 2.000 major GPA in order to graduate (instead of 2.250 GPAs).Ìý

• Need access to a computer lab during the next two weeks of remote learning? ECCR 150 is open to all students, and students should have Buff Card access to all academic buildings.

As the new semester begins with remote instruction, the college is once again offering technology devices for loan to help students serving as TAs or CAs for engineering classes.

The college offers document cameras, pen-enabled displays and tablets, voice amplifiers (for when in-person instruction resumes), and a limited supply of headset mics to borrow for the semester. Although priority is granted to instructional faculty members, supplies are also available to teaching assistants and course assistants.

Equipment checkout is available on a first-come, first-served basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the front desk of the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory (ITLL).Visit theÌýTeaching Tech CheckoutÌýwebpage for more information.

May and August 2022 graduates are invited to participate in the college-wide Ring & Pin Ceremony, which will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 22 in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. This event is the highlight of our local commemoration of and a rite of passage for graduating engineers and applied scientists.Ìý

If you are interested, please . Registration cost of $12 will be applied to the cost of your ring or pin for the ceremony. After the ceremony, there will be a reception to meet and network with alumni and fellow graduating students.

During this virtual session on Jan. 26 from 5:30-6:30 p.m., you will have the opportunity to meet several faculty and a postdoctoral researcher in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Hear about their journeys that led them into research, ask questions and learn more about research careers.

Attend a virtual info session on Jan. 13 or 14 to learn about the at Dartmouth College, a three-week immersive summer experience designed for undergraduate non-business majors. The program provides a comprehensive business curriculum, a capstone team project, recruiting services, and one-on-one career guidance. Scholarship opportunities are available for CU Engineering students interested in business to meaningfully accelerate their career paths.

If you are planning to graduate in May or August 2022, you must apply online to graduate by April 1. Follow the instructions on the Apply for Graduation page on the registrar’s website.

Start the semester strong and get organized by using the Semester on a Page. This is a great tool to implement backwards planning. See all of your major assignments and exams on one page and plan backwards by putting in start dates to get your homework and studying going! Notice where you may have more free time vs. busy time, and plan accordingly.

Stop by their offices at 2500 Central Ave. in Boulder from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for food trucks, opportunities to speak with hiring managers and on-site interviews. Ìý

The Idea Forge is . The available positions are for general Idea Forge student staff members (we call them smiths). Duties vary on a daily basis, but include working on special projects for each of our staff members. Projects can range from doing CAD to helping with research data to teaching workshops. There is also opportunity for promotion!

Engineering Career Services is seeking applications from undergraduate or graduate students interested in serving in a role as a special projects student coordinator for Engineering Career Services. We are looking for a student who is interested in event planning and working directly with engineering employers. This student would market events and assist with day-of-event tasks for panels, tabling, and professional development opportunities. This position pays $15/hour and works 10-15 hours/week. Please note that hours may fluctuate based on recruiting needs and time of year.
