Nominate graduating students for awards by Oct. 13

Graduating undergraduate student award nominations are now being accepted for students graduating with their bachelor’s degree in December 2023!ÌýThe nomination form is open through Oct. 13 for eight award categories.

The complete set of criteria associated with each award must be fully addressed by nominators.ÌýA good is available for reference. Student winners will be notified by early November and honored at the December Engineering Graduation Ceremony.

Starting at noon Friday, Oct. 6, through 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, University Information Services (UIS) will move physical equipment to a new, modern facility on the Anschutz Medical Campus. If needed, a contingency date has been planned for Nov. 10–13.

Services that will be unavailable during the outage include MyCUInfo, Buff Portal, Campus Solutions, eRA by InfoEd, FIN and HCM.ÌýÌýof unaffected services and services that will be available but potentially affected by the outage.

Cynthia Finelli, professor of electrical engineering and computer science and educationÌýand director of Engineering Education Research at University of Michigan, willÌýpresent research about the state of undergraduate ethics instruction and its long-term impact, propose a new approach to ethics instruction, and offer two course-based approaches to better educate ethical engineers.

Noteworthy

Ìý»ÌýScott Diddams of electrical, computer and energy engineering received a $1 million award from the W.M. Keck Foundation, which will support a three-year study to explore the feasibility of creating a frequency comb detector for a planetwide astronomical infrared telescope.

The 2023 Engineering Staff Council representatives have kicked off the school year with new ideas and energy. Three committees were identified by the group for the year: Community Building, Retention, and Workplace Culture & Policy. All staff are welcome to join us at our October meeting on Thursday, Oct 5, at 2 p.m. in Clark Conference room or .

Plus, mark your calendars for the on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 8:45-10 a.m. in the Engineering Center main lobby. We’ll be serving coffee and Halloween treats (GF and vegan available).
