Congratulations to Brian Argrow and Zoya Popovic on receiving one of the highest professional distinctions available to engineers! Argrow was honored “for contributions to unmanned aerial systems capable of penetrating severe storms and leadership in their application to scientific observation,” while Popovic was recognized “for developing high-efficiency microwave transmitters and active antenna arrays for wireless communication systems and for engineering education.”Argrow and Popovic join 13 other national academy members across the college.
Destination Startup event features several CU Engineering teams
Destination Startup helps innovative researchers and faculty ready themselves for the process of fundraising and the commercialization of their technology. This year, the event will offer both virtual andin-person options to attend for both registrants and participants.
Thursday, Feb. 17. 2 p.m., virtual
The Natural Hazards Center will host another virtual forum related to the recent Boulder County fires. It will highlight four new studies focused on damage to the built environment, the response of water utilities, and assessments of air quality impacts from the Marshall Fire. Each of the four research teams will take 10 minutes to present the preliminary findings from their research. The remaining time will be dedicated to questions from the audience, as well as resource sharing and research coordination efforts.
RIO kicking off CAREER proposal-writing program

Considering submitting an NSF CAREER proposal in 2022? The Research & Innovation Office’s NSF CAREER Commit-to-Submit Writing Program can help. The virtual kickoff workshop on Feb. 18 will introduce the program and help eligible early career faculty think about their readiness to submit a proposal by the July 2022 deadline.
The workshop and writing program will be led by RIO Proposal Writer Diane Carillo and will feature a panel of campus NSF CAREER awardees. The writing program is designed to support your proposal development through individual coaching, optional peer writing groups, and red team reviews. Molly Riddell, assistant director of research support for CEAS, will co-host to discuss CAREER proposal development support available to engineering faculty.
