Michele Moses has been appointed as the new president elect for the Philosophy of Education Society and will serve as president for 2022-2023.
The (PES) is an international forum that promotes the philosophic treatment of educational practice, policy and research, advances the quality of teaching the philosophy of education and cultivates fruitful relationships between and among philosophers, philosophers of education and educators.
鈥淢y work can be considered a bit off the beaten path within philosophy of education, so it feels like an extra huge honor to be selected as the next president,鈥� Moses said.
鈥淧ES has been my primary scholarly home since I first joined when I was in graduate school, on the recommendation of my mentor, Professor Ken Howe, who also served as PES president some years ago. I鈥檓 proud to follow in his footsteps in doing philosophy that is engaged in education policy issues that matter for social justice in a diverse democratic society.鈥�
Moses is a professor of educational foundations, policy and practice at the CU Boulder School of Education and the vice provost for Faculty Affairs. She received her PhD in Philosophy of Education and MA in Philosophy from CU Boulder, her MEd in Higher Education from the University of Vermont, and her BA in Latin American Studies from the University of Virginia. Moses specializes in philosophy and education policy studies, with particular expertise in policy disagreements that involve race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and moral and political values. She has been a Fulbright New Century Scholar, was awarded CU Boulder鈥檚 Hazel Barnes Prize, and was selected as a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association.

As president, Moses is looking forward to the annual conference in 2023 and selected colleague,聽Assistant Professor Terri Wilson as the program chair for the conference. Together, Moses and Wilson will work together to craft the theme of the program, invite keynote speakers, and shape the feel of the conference.
