Policies
Equipment is for ARTS or ARTH coursework only. Students must be enrolled in in ARTS or ARTH courses to borrow equipment.
The VRC happily supports coursework, but due due to the limits of our budget and equipment inventory, we cannot provide equipment for semester-long checkouts (e.g., cameras for photo or video classes).
Students majoring in Studio Arts or Art History degrees who are not enrolled in ARTS or ARTH courses but need equipment for degree-related projects must request borrowing privileges from the VRC.
Reserve equipment in advance through the Patron Portal (). All of the equipment we circulate can be viewed in the portal.
Reserve equipment as far in advance as possible to ensure availability.
Pick up equipment in person at your reservation appointment time at the Equipment Room (VAC Room 310). Please be on time for your reservation pickup.
Email us to make recurring reservations needed for teaching (e.g., a laptop needed for each class).
Students must present a Buff OneCard at the time of checkout.
The VRC charges hourly late fines for overdue equipment.
For most items the checkout period is up to two business days, depending on reservation availability.
When the due date falls on weekends or campus holidays, the due date rolls forward to the next regular busness day, as indicated by the checkout agreement you sign. E.g., two-day items borrowed on Thursday, are due the following Monday.
Laptops are intended for presentations and limited to the duration of a class period. They do not include Creative Cloud or other specialized software.
Equipment may be renewed once if no other reservations exist. Contact the VRC (see contact info above) to inquire about the possibility of renewals. Renewals are due back two business days from the moment of the renewal.
Be prepared to return the equipment on time if it is unavailable for renewal.
Except by special arrangement, equipment is unavailable when campus closes, or over winter break and during summer sessions when Art and Art History classes are not being held.
Requests for extended checkouts under special circumstances may be made in advance; they are considered on a case by case basis.
Equipment must be returned by the person who borrowed it; the borrower’s signature is required if there are issues such as late returns or missing components.
During any given semester, all equipment is due back by the last day of final exams, unless special circumstances close campus earlier.
