The CU Boulder Connection

Solid Power was established with the mission to revolutionize batteries. The company was founded in collaboration with CU Boulder in 2017, with an exclusive licensing agreement on university-owned Intellectual Property (IP) fromÌýthe visionary work of associate professors Conrad Stoldt and Se-Hee Lee (Mechanical Engineering), with support from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).ÌýAiming to double rechargeable battery energy density,ÌýSolid Power secured several million dollars in grant funding, including federal grants from agencies like the Advanced Research Projects Agency–EnergyÌý(ARPA-E), Air ForceÌýand Department of Energy (DOE) and an investment round led by BMW, FordÌýand Volta Technologies before Solid Power went public in 2021.
