Beginning in August 2017, Sierra's Fulbright-Nehru research project will听examine opportunities for local听adaptive strategies and technocratic interventions led by the Indian government to collaboratively address the impacts of climate-induced disasters in Uttarakhand and Ladakh.听Specifically, she is听investigating how rural communities听have historically coped with floods and droughts and mitigated their effects locally听as well as what current barriers and opportunities exist for the continued use of these technologies alongside state-led interventions.听Collaborating closely with Jawaharlal Nehru University鈥檚 Disaster Research Programme and India鈥檚 National Institute of Disaster Management,听Sierra听hopes her听research may enable government-led efforts to combat climate-induced disasters to complement, rather than displace, local knowledge and practices.
