Rupak Shrestha, an Assistant Professor in School for Internatinal Studies and the Global Asia Program at Simon Fraser Univrsity in Vancouver, Canada. He did his PhD in the Department of Geography, Â鶹ÊÓƵ. His researches primarily investigate extraterritorial sovereignty, citizenship, and territory in spaces (re)produced by the politics of development. He is interested in understanding how people are rendered powerless through state mechanisms, and the ways in which the powerless counteract and navigate through/around such mechanisms. Rupak's past research includes (1) Tibetans-in-exile exercise and negotiate politics through engagements with Walung indigeneity in the NE Nepali Himalayas (2) China's extraterritorial sovereignty and politics of development are situated in Boudha, Kathmandu.

Rupak has a MA in Geography from Miami University (OH) and a BA in Geography, Tourism, and GIS from St. Cloud State University (MN). He grew up in Nepal but identifies various places around the world as his home. He photographs, runs, and cooks.
