Buffs, have a great winter break

Dr.Mull
Hi Buffs,

Winter has arrived, classes wrap up this week and you are almost done with your fall semester! As things begin to wind down, I have been thinking about how special my first fall in Boulder has felt. There have been some moments for me that stand out, and the most memorable ones have been times where I was able to be in community with you all. Between move-in week and welcome activities, gameday huddles and countless other events, it has been so wonderful to connect with you and I look forward to more opportunities to meet in the spring.

With winter break starting soon, I encourage you to be intentional with how you use your time over the next few weeks. Whether you are in your first or final year at CU, acknowledge the hard work you put in this semester and find ways to celebrate. During my time in college, I loved to get together with friends in our dining hall to connect, laugh and have a good time before we left for break. I would also gather with my friends for a celebratory meal and a night out after we finished final exams. Granted, we did not have things like Snapchat or TikTok at that time, so making time to see each other and stay in touch was always a must. Making it through the semester is an accomplishment and an important milestone, so treat yourself—you deserve it!

In addition to honoring your achievements, be deliberate when it comes to prioritizing your rest and relaxation as you need and desire. What are some activities that bring you joy? What helps center you? What makes you feel energized? And again, what brings you joy? Do more of that, Buffs.

It is also common for many people this month to reflect on the past year and consider potential goals for 2024. After you have had a chance to recharge and reconnect with family and friends, take time to think back on your fall semester and make plans for spring. What were your defining moments? What feels like the right next step in your collegiate journey? What could enhance your experience in the spring? What would you like to achieve by the end of the academic year in May?

Whether you want to gain professional experience, improve your GPA or find a new way to get involved and build community, the Division of Student Affairs has resources and opportunities to help you reach your goals. If you want to get a head start over winter break, we are here for you as many of our offices provide virtual services and appointments in addition to our traditional office hours.

Buffs, I would love to hear about your favorite moments from the fall semester and what your plans are for spring. Email me at vcsa@colorado.edu and let me know. The first 23 students to reply will receive a Buff t-shirt.

Take care, Buffs, and have a great winter break. See you in 2024!

Warmly,
Dr. D’Andra Mull
