Transfer students: How to become a Buff

As a transfer student, it’s up to you to make your time at CU a memorable one. There are resources available to you that can help. Whether you want to find your community, excel in your academic path or explore your options, here are some ways to pick up where you left off as a transfer student.Ěý

Join a student organization

CU Boulder has more than 500 student organizations. Are you interested in politics? Outdoor activities? Artistic expression? Social justice? There’s something for everyone! to explore student groups by topic or alphabetical list.

Can’t find a group that matches your interests? Start an organization of your own! The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) supports student groups with the resources to plan events, raise funds and grow your organization.Ěý

Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to explore your interests. Not only can you meet new people and make a positive difference in your community, but there are many options to fit your schedule. Visit the Volunteer Resource Center (VRC) to learn more.

Find your community

If you didn’t get the chance to live the “dorm life,” it doesn’t mean you can’t make friends in a new environment. Sometimes, to make a big school feel like home, it helps to find your group of people as soon as possible.Ěý

Getting involved can help you meet friends, discover interests and hobbies, and even explore different career paths. Here are a few of the many possibilities to check out this semester:

  • Try out one of the Rec Center’s FitWell virtual classes and meet fellow Buffs who are interested in staying active during virtual times.
  • Join the Sustainable Buffs Community for opportunities to engage in community building, education and leadership in sustainability.
  • Become a member of The Herd and celebrate your place at CU Boulder. You can also become a Herd Leader and be a part of enhancing inclusivity, Buff pride and networking opportunities on campus.
  • Participate in community-building programs, educational workshops and inclusive events with the Center for Inclusion & Social Change.Ěý

Help with a research project

°Őłó±đĚýUndergraduate Research Opportunities Program provides hands-on experience in a research or creative project. This is also a chance to connect with faculty mentors.

Attend virtual events

Even if you feel like you can’t commit to too many things this semester, there are many benefits to engaging virtually in your first semester at CU. And a great way to do that is attending virtual events.

One of the perks of attending virtual events is that you get to participate in fun activities from the comfort of your own space – yes, that means snacks and PJs! Some events have special guests that you might not otherwise have had the chance to see. Attending virtual events is a great opportunity to have new interactions and engage with others in a time where you would not normally be able to do so.
