The dean's list of advice: Getting into the Halloween spirit
Between midterms, balancing coursework with other responsibilities and continuing to navigate a global pandemic, this month may have been more stressful than usual for some of us. I can’t thank you all enough for showing up for your community and continuing to follow public health orders. I hope you are able to find time this weekend to relax and recharge, take a break and enjoy the holiday safely.
Candy, costumes and events
Halloween is a fun holiday that many of us are excited about—I personally can’t wait to indulge in some Reese’s peanut butter cups this weekend. I will be giving out candy this week while I am the Dean on the go! I want to see you and hand out a treat of thanks for all that you have done!
While this Halloween will be different from previous years, there are still many ways to participate in your usual traditions. Be creative and make a costume that you can wear with a small group of your friends or roommates. Plan a scary movie marathon, play games or find some Halloween-themed recipes to try out—and don’t forget the candy! For more things to do, check out our list of free Halloween events this week, including “Haunted Boulder” bike and walking tours, pumpkin decorating, film screenings and more.
Looking out for each other
Whatever you choose to do this weekend, please be safe and responsible.
- Continue to follow public health orders—wear a face covering, limit your gatherings to 10 people or less and stay at least 6 feet away from others.
- If you are concerned about your safety or someone else's, keep an eye on the situation and don’t hesitate to call for help.
- Review more information about how you can be an effective bystander and look out for other members of the community.
- You can also review the Amnesty Policy to learn more about what to do if you need to call for help in an alcohol- or drug-related emergency.
Remember, you have helped us lower the spread of COVID-19. Likewise, remember you are a Buff wherever you are. We are on this journey together!
Finding support
I know this month has been tough for many of you. If you’re struggling and need support, please reach out and use the resources available to you:
- Counseling & Psychiatric Services is offering telehealth appointments and workshops.
- Check out weekly events like Mindful Mondays, Wellness Wednesdays and Fri-Yay Nights to learn self-care tips and connect with fellow Buffs.
- Try peer wellness coaching. This is a free service available to CU Boulder students to help you set and achieve wellness goals.
- CU Boulder students who are in need of food are invited to visit the Buff Pantry to receive food on a weekly basis at no cost, if needed.
And as always, I’m here for you - please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you aren’t sure what you need. I hope to see you while I’m out and about on campus, so please stop and say hi if you see me!
