Melvin is a graduate student in the Materials Science and Engineering Program and joined the R+PM group in the Fall of 2020. Melvin received his B.S. in Chemistry from American University in 2016. While at American University, Melvin undertook research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) developing nature inspired flame-retardant coatings for textiles and foams. Subsequently, Melvin received a National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC) fellowship and completed a M.S. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California Irvine (UCI) . While at UCI, Melvin worked with Dr. Alon Gorodetsky on thermal regulation and material actuators.Â
