CU Psychology and Neuroscience Distinguished Professor Linda Watkins (Behavioral Neuroscience) was in the news, with several articles in the print media and segments recently on both New York City's CBS news station and Denver's Channel 4 news about some research of hers having to do with a new gene therapy to address chronic osteoarthritic pain in dogs. This non-opioid therapy targets glial cells, cells that are at the root of much chronic pain. Working in collaboration with a local veterinarian, the therapy has been tested on more than 3 dozen dogs with excellent results. Human clinical trials are now underway as well.
