CU Psychology and Neuroscience Assistant Professor Naomi Friedman (Behavioral Genetics, Cognitive, and the ) and former graduate student and postdoc Dan Gustavson (now a postdoc at UC San Diego) were in the news as a result of some research published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology. This research, a twin study conducted in collaboration with several colleagues in the department as well as IBG, demonstrated that whereas twins who demonstrated poor executive function were more likely to experiment with illicit substances as an adolescent (17 years old in the study), that did not result in substance abuse or dependence either then or 6 years later.
