Shareholder Advocacy Leadership Training
In recent years, shareholder advocacy gained significant traction when it included participation by Indigenous leaders, either through direct engagement with companies or through proposed resolutions at Annual General Meetings (AGMs). in 2023 demonstrated increasing investor attention and expectations regarding Indigenous Peoples’ rights.
First Peoples Worldwide partners with Indigenous leaders, Indigenous communities, and organizations to provide strategic support and expertise for project-specific shareholder campaigns. This can entail:
- Defining goals of the engagement with partners;
- Researching companies’ activities and policy;
- Defining escalation tactics;
- Educating investors to the issue by connecting them with Indigenous leaders;
- Providing investor briefs and coordinate drafting letters between Indigenous and investor partners;
- Delivering materials to investors and companies as appropriate;
- Publicizing the action by providing leadership and assistance with communications outreach; and
- Coordinating follow-up, including company meetings, investor briefs before corporate engagement, briefs for Indigenous leaders to prepare for company meetings, and annual general meeting preparation and coordination.
