Such successful collaborations have already advanced commercial development in low earth orbit and space science missions that&nbsp;are surveying the solar system and beyond. Coupled with international alliances, we can expand the aerospace pie, open new opportunities for a new generation of engineers and scientists, and develop a true space economy.</p> <p>America must continue to be a leader, willing to invest real and intellectual capital, to develop a balanced space exploration program. <a href="/ness/node/1071/attachment" rel="nofollow">Read more...</a></p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Mon, 06 May 2019 16:49:36 +0000 Anonymous 1069 at /ness Vice President may tell NASA to accelerate lunar landings /ness/2019/03/21/vice-president-may-tell-nasa-accelerate-lunar-landings <span>Vice President may tell NASA to accelerate lunar landings</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2019-03-21T10:39:06-06:00" title="Thursday, March 21, 2019 - 10:39">Thu, 03/21/2019 - 10:39</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/ness/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/vice_president_mike_pence_center_in_mission_control_houston_will_oversee_all_space_decisions_made_by_the_trump_administration.jpg?h=e651137e&amp;itok=CG3J5EWG" width="1200" height="600" alt="Vice President Mike Pence, center in Mission Control Houston, will oversee all space decisions made by the Trump administration."> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-categories" itemprop="about"> <span class="visually-hidden">Categories:</span> <div class="ucb-article-category-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-folder-open"></i> </div> <a href="/ness/taxonomy/term/6"> News </a> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/ness/taxonomy/term/549" hreflang="en">National Space Council</a> </div> <span>Eric Berger</span> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/ness/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/vice_president_mike_pence_center_in_mission_control_houston_will_oversee_all_space_decisions_made_by_the_trump_administration.jpg?itok=4yWJrnQS" width="1500" height="1014" alt="Vice President Mike Pence, center in Mission Control Houston, will oversee all space decisions made by the Trump administration."> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p><strong>From Ars Technica:</strong>&nbsp;One of the panelists who will appear at a National Space Council meeting next Tuesday said to expect "a few fireworks" during the discussion, which will focus on NASA's efforts to return humans to the Moon. The meeting of this council that oversees US spaceflight policy will be held in Hunstville, Alabama, and led by Vice President Mike Pence.</p> <p>鶹Ƶ astrophysicist Jack Burns, one of six speakers scheduled for the meeting, said the current timeline for NASA to send humans to the Moon lacks urgency. NASA has talked about landing its astronauts on the Moon before the end of the 2020s, and the president's budget proposal for the coming fiscal year allows for this to happen as early as 2028.</p> <p>"The timeline is too slow, and that's one of the things that I'm going to be talking about next Tuesday," Burns said. If pushed, how soon could NASA put humans back on the Moon? The year 2025, Burns replied. "And I know some in the administration would like to do it even faster than that," he added.
