Welcome, Music Buffs!
It’s reinvigorating to have our students, faculty and staff together again—the energy and vibrancy in our halls, offices, studios, classrooms and performance venues is palpable and powerful. Powerful because what we do at the College of Music is truly special—and what a privilege it is to be part of a campus that values the arts and humanities, and that supports our mission to develop the artists, educators, composers, scholars, innovators and leaders of tomorrow.
Most of what we do in music is about bringing people together—we influence and inspire one another, build on and collaborate with one another and our audiences, and gain from one another’s differences. What we have in common is nothing less than a passion and reverence for beauty in various forms—be it performing works by underrepresented composers, conducting cross-disciplinary research, or pursuing music entrepreneurship or other myriad ways of expressing universal musicianship. As we kick off the 2023-’24 academic year, my purpose is to ensure your sense of belonging at our College of Music—and to reaffirm your decision to join this extraordinary community of creators, thinkers and doers who take care of one another. My door is always open.
