The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. This year, College of Music faculty and students won four of these prestigious grants:
Brenda M. Romero
Associate Professor, was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to teach a seminar at the Department of Music at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia focusing on the important issues to consider as the Department opens a master鈥檚 program in musicology encompassing all areas of music study. 听The Fulbright also allows Romero to do fieldwork on Matachines, her long-term transcultural research focus, in preparation for a book manuscript. Romero had another Fulbright in 2000-2001 to conduct research on Matachines throughout Mexico.听Romero is one of approximately 1,100 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright U/S. Scholar Program this year.

Catherine Compton
A Graduate Voice Student at the College of Music, also received a Fulbright Grant for Study/Research and will spend听the next year studying the music of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel in Leipzig.

Elaine Hild, a Ph.D. student in musicology (advised by Rebecca Maloy), also听received both a Fulbright and a DAAD 听to do dissertation research听at the Bruno St盲blein archive in W眉rzburg, Germany. Her project is entitled 鈥淢edieval Settings of Verse: A听Study of the Manuscripts Created at St. Gall prior to 1050.鈥�

Ryan Drickey
Violinist听Ryan Drickey听received a Fulbright Award to study Swedish folk music, teach and share American folk music and collaborate with Swedish musicians.
