Jan Burton had a long career in high technology, working in senior leadership roles for Motorola, Avaya, Apple Computer, and other distinguished companies. She led sales and marketing teams globally and lived in Europe and traveled extensively. She started a Boulder-based tiny home manufacturing company in 2014 and is interested in design and housing issues.

She served on Boulder City Council from 2015-2017 and is a strong advocate for improved democracy in local government. She has mentored students of many disciplines, including for the Boulder CU Leadership Program. She is currently Chair of the Conference on World Affairs Advisory Board.

She also serves on the CU College of Music Advisory Board, is Chair of Create Boulder, an arts advocacy organization, and serves on boards of other community-based organizations. She writes an editorial column for the Daily Camera. She is a pilot, an avid hiker, and volunteers for Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks as a raptor monitor.
