Bio

Edgart Flores holds a PhD in Oceanography from the University of Concepción in Chile, where his doctoral research focused on investigating the microbial communities and origin of organic matter in the deepest part of the Southeastern Pacific Ocean using lipid membranes. He also explored the potential adaptations of these microorganisms to the extreme conditions of low temperatures and high pressures in the hadal environment. As part of the “MIcrobial Lipidomics in Changing Oceans” (MILCO) project funded by the NSF, Edgart will continue his research during his postdoctoral fellowship at the 鶹Ƶ. Specifically, he will study the lipid remodeling of microorganisms in response to a changing ocean.
