2018 Brain Awareness Week: A Stimulating Success
During March 12 to 16, seven events occurred for the community inside and outside of the University to learn about the progress and benefits of brain research.
Three speakers, three workshops, and a Community Brain Day Open House provided 'food for thought' attendees young and old.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the 2019 International Brain Awareness Week which is March 11 - 17, 2019. CU Boulder will once again offer Brain Week around this time.

“The Impact of Exercise on the Aging Brain” by Dr. Angela Bryan

Parking is available in front of the building.
The 225 bus drops off in front of the building. The DASH drops off half a mile away.
Dr. Bryan will give an overview of age-related changes in the brain, and the mechanisms by which lifestyle choices and genetics may influence brain structure and function during later years of life. She will present preliminary findings from her study of physical activity with older adults.

Professor Marie Banich really does know how teens think. Her work at CU Boulder's Banich Lab uses brain imaging techniques to understand the neural systems that process emotion, social information and rewards. The research illuminates the science behind “crazy” teen behavior, but also the wonderful opportunities of youth.

Given the increasing prevalence of marijuana recreational and medicinal and changing legal policies, understanding the effects of different forms of cannabis on human brain development and health is an increasingly important topic. Dr. Cinnamon Bidwell will provide an overview of the current state of human cannabis research, important barriers to conducting cannabis research due to federal regulations, and a path forward for collecting data on the health risks as well as potential therapeutic effects of legal market cannabis products.

This drop-in group is an opportunity to be led through a powerful guided meditation to undo stress, soothe the nervous systemand feel better. Students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend. Participantsare encouraged to bring materials for personal comfort that will aid meditation(e.g., yoga mat, a small pillow or cushion, etc.). Please arrive on time so the meditation is not disturbed. There will be no late admittance.

Join us for a stimulating, fun, and brain expanding event for curious people ages 5 to 105!
A sampling of activities: challenge your balance, experience psychophysiological sensations; see brain pattern animations; check out a mock brain-scanner; learn about children and delayed gratification; make mindfulness jars; see how gaze tracking, facial expression tracking and skin response sensors work; how falling in love happens in the brain; play brain games and more. Nearly 20 activitiesare expected to explore the brain.
