David L. Gross recieved his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. HisÌýmain area of specialization is Modern European Intellectual History from the eighteenth century to the present. Gross's research has dealt with issues having to do with the decline of tradition in the modern era, remembering and forgetting in contemporary culture, and the emergence of anti-modern forms of thought in the West since l789. Publications include:Ìý(1992),ÌýÌý(2000), and "Objects from the Past," inÌýWaste-Site Stories: the Recycling of MemoryÌý(2003). Gross is also the editor of a book series with The University of Massachusetts Press entitled "Critical Perspectives on Modern Culture," and Associate Editor of the journalÌý.
