Lisa de Alwis

Lisa de Alwis is a musicologist who specializes in Viennese music and culture of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. She received her PhD from the University of Southern California with a dissertation about censorship and magical opera in Vienna. Her discovery in that city of an important document about theatrical censorship led to the publication of articles appearing in the Mozart Jahrbuch, Nestroyana and in Notes. Her translation of the 18th-century pamphlet entitled Anti-Da Ponte was published in 2015. She is currently part of a team writing a book on Mozart for the general public that will be published by Cambridge University Press. De Alwis has worked as the editorial assistant for the Journal of the American Musicological Society and serves on the board of the Mozart Society of America. She has organized sessions on Viennese opera and on censorship at conferences for the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies and at the German Studies Association. De Alwis also leads the Global Seminar "Voices of Vienna."
