Abstract:

This talk explores Indigenous and IndianÌýdiasporic relations that exist within and across theÌýafterlives of imperialism in what is known as CanadaÌýand theorizes dominant caste IndianÌýdiasporic complicities in ongoing colonization ofÌýIndigenous nations and lands. Foregrounding theÌýtransnational intersections of race, caste, andÌýindigeneity, the talk draws from research in sites ofÌýresource extraction, logging and canneries in BritishÌýColumbia in the 1970s-90s and the tar sands inÌýAlberta presently, and theorizes these sites asÌýsimultaneous spaces of intimacies and complicities.
