October 28-Dec 14: Hazardous material abatement and demolition

  • Construction on Cristol swing spaces has started. These labs in Cristol will house the general chemistry teaching labs while the Ekeley building is under construction.
  • Hazardous material abatement and demolition will commence in October.
  • Initial site fence for dumpsters will be located on the North East side of the Ekeley building.
  • Sections of the second floor will be closed for abatement activities starting on 10/28/24.
  • There will be a small sidewalk detour around the construction fencing on the north side of the building.

The Ekeley Sciences Building renovation will update teaching labs for undergraduate and graduate chemistry instruction, adding student study spaces and improving lab efficiency, teaching outcomes, safety, and addressing deferred maintenance. A renovated HVAC system will greatly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions of Ekeley Sciences building, and at the same time ready the building for greater campus decarbonization efforts.
