Dr. Jack Burns at the Cape in Florida 2022Jack Burns, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus in the 听and Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics, both at the , and is Vice President Emeritus for Academic Affairs and Research for the CU System.听

Also, Jack was recently the Principal Investigator of the NASA-funded听. In addition, he听has longstanding ties with and听served on the NASA Advisory Council from 2008-2010, Chair of the Council鈥檚 Science Committee from听2009-2010,听and听as听a member of the 2016-2017听Presidential NASA transition team.听Additionally, Jack served as the Senior Vice President of the from 2014-2017 and is Acting Treasurer of the AAS for 2024.

His research focuses on extragalactic astronomy and cosmology; observations of active galaxies and galaxy clusters using radio interferometers, optical telescopes, and x-ray satellites; supercomputer numerical simulations of astrophysical jets and large scale structures in the universe; and, the design of low frequency radio telescopes听on the Moon.听
