Advisors provide quality academic advising to assist students in transitioning to their best-fit major and work with you to: 

  • Create an academic pathway aligned with your personal and career interests.
  • Provide aid in choosing classes that encourage exploration but also make forward degree progress
  • Empower students to explore curricular and co-curricular options to make informed decisions about academic and career goals
  • Guide students in navigating university systems and processes
  • Connect you with a career advisor
  • Help open up new opportunities for discovery and exploring

Looking to connect with Advising?

PES students: 

Fall 2024 Advising: 

  • Aug. 26-30: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. (virtual and in-person drop-in advising)
  • Sept. 3- Dec. 13: 1-3 p.m. (in-person drop-in advising) 

To access drop-in advising:

  • Virtual: Log in to Buff Portal Advising, click on the Program in Exploratory Studies tile with the explorer icon on the left side of your screen. Select the virtual drop-in advising session you wish to attend to obtain the link to our PES Drop-In Zoom waiting room (and Zoom Meeting ID if ). An advisor will admit you from the Zoom waiting room once they are available to meet with you. You will be admitted to the main room and moved by an advisor into a breakout room. Please have your student ID ready.
  • In-Person: Please come to the PES Advising Lobby located in the CASE building, east wing, 2nd (main) floor and check-in at the kiosk next to our front desk.  An advisor will come get you when they are available to meet.

Click on your your advisor's picture and it pulls up their schedule for you to book an appointment

Important note:
A hold prevents you from taking some kind of action, whether that's registering for classes, getting proof of enrollment, receiving a financial aid refund, ordering a transcript or receiving a diploma. Make sure to check Buff Portal for details on how to get holds resolved. Contact your advisor if you have additional questions.

  • I’m not sure which major to pick, what classes do you recommend I take?

  • Where can I get extra help for my courses, I want to make sure I’m on top of my work and don’t fall behind?

  • How do I run a degree audit?

  • If I want to IUT into a specific major, where do I find the due date to apply?

  • I have opposite interests and can’t decide on which path to chose, what do I do?

  • Is it still possible to graduate in four years?

  • Can I modify my major with minors and certificates?

Peer Mentors

Our office has a set of peer mentors who are available to help you. Peer mentors are current and former PES students. You can ask them questions and get a peer’s perspective. They have personal insight with the IUT process and discovering the major that was right for them. They work at the front desk of the UEAC and are available to help with any simple questions you may have.

Pre-Transfer Advising is a resource for students planning to transfer to the Â鶹ÊÓƵ. We provide preliminary advising for prospective and newly admitted transfer students in order to facilitate a successful transition to the university.
