Title: REESEN: A Remotely Sensed Ensemble to Understand Human Impacts on the Water Cycle
PI: Ben Livneh
Short description: The Earth system is no longer governed exclusively by natural processes. This research will develop a new ensemble dataset (called REESEN) to provide global water balance estimates, with an emphasis on anthropogenic water management features. The approach will combine a large array of existing remote-sensing datasets and is different from other water balance analyses because it will not rely on land-surface models. Instead, the new dataset will be compared to land surface simulations and reference products that do not include human activities in order to quantify anthropogenic impacts over major global river basins.
